Admin Michelle Young Posted 23 April Admin Share Posted 23 April Welcome to the forum. His medal index card ©️ Ancestry shows Dead, rather than died of wounds. A victim of the flu pandemic possibly. He saw service overseas as you will see on the MIC. https://www.cwgc.org/find-records/find-war-dead/casualty-details/363635/c-l-edwards/

David Porter Posted 23 April Share Posted 23 April The Regimental Number for Charles was issued at No. 2 Depot RFA, Preston, around September 24, 1915. The date he arrived in France coincides with that of 167th (Howitzer) Brigade RFA but he could quite easily have been a reinforcement for Base Depot at Havre on the same day. As you can work out, his training was deemed completed within 3 months. He did enough during his service to be granted the rank of Corporal, though this is not shown on his MIC. The actual unit he was with when he died in hospital appears to be 1st Reserve Battery, 1A Reserve Brigade RFA, Newcastle-on-Tyne. Not everyone was aware of the exact nomenclature which led to erroneous or incomplete entries.
AndrewSid Posted 23 April Share Posted 23 April (edited) Charles it would seem was wounded at least twice. His casualty reports are below, courtesy of the NLS. You should be aware that the actual date of wounding was likely around 4 weeks (approx) prior to the 8th December 1917 and 27 July 1918 dates below. He had a busy war.
