Remembered Today:

Help identify regiments

I got this photograph from a friend who would like to know your thoughts on which regiments are featured, also, are the slouch hats Anzacs, and any Canadians or Americans in the photograph. It's a poor image and the scan is 2400 dpi so as good as this will get.

Cheers Mike

Thanks Michelle. That was what I thought and I think you're right.

Closest to the front looks like Royal Scots I think.  Wearing Scottish badges on SD caps wasn’t unusual in hospitals, as men often were wounded wearing helmets and not in possession of bonnets.  SD caps were usually issued at the hospital along with hospital blue uniform.

Mike squinting hard at the man rear right and I think he might be Royal Irish Regiment, or as a second choice Connaught Rangers.  Unfortunately I cannot make head or tail of the fellow at rear left.  If pressed for a stab in the dark I’d say Royal Marines Light Infantry.

Thanks again FROGSMILE, I think that's as good as we'll get. These regiments might mean something to the person who owns the photograph. Could the rear left be Royal Engineers?

The rounded shape is right, but the proportional dimensions don’t quite chime to my eyes.  It’s  indistinct, so RMLI was my best stab based on what I can see.

Lad at the front Royal Scots or HLI ?

Gary

I thought Royal Scots because I believe I can discern St Andrew in a central aperture.
