suesalter1 Posted 21 April Share Posted 21 April I've just returned from a brilliant battlefield tour ran by Leger Holidays, visiting the Somme and Ypres Salient areas. Our guide, Mark Adams, mentioned soldiers, who had German heritage, but naturalised British citizens, serving in a unit called 'The Kaiser's Own'. I've never heard of this unit before and wondered if anyone else had? One of my ancestors, Sidney George Salter Heinrich, served in the Royal Warwickshire Regiment, no. 2783. His father gained British citizenship in 1909, so was not imprisoned. I would be interested if any information about the Kaiser's Own. Thanks. suesalter1 Posted 21 April Author Share Posted 21 April Thanks for your reply and information on the Kaiser's Own. The article seems to point towards the Middlesex Regiment where many of the soldiers of German heritage served. My ancestor lived in West Bromwich and served with the Royal Warwickshires. Unfortunately no service record survives for him. His medal roll states he was a Sergeant in 1/6th battalion, so he must have been a combatant. I often wander how he was treated by his fellow soldiers with a surname of Heinrich! Sue
