Welcome to the forum. I reckon it says Chronic (Synovitis) I’m not 100% re  the second word. @Dai Bach y Sowldiwr can you assist please?
Synovitis is a chronic knee pain condition that involves inflammation or irritation within the synovium. Synovitis is swelling of this internal knee structure to any degree caused by the joint overproducing synovial fluid.

  • Michelle Young changed the title to WW1 medical discharge

@Michelle Young

Indeed it says Chronic Synovitis.

Could be caused by all manner of conditions from inflamatory diseases like Rheumatoid Arthrtis, to infections like Rheumatic Fever, septic arthrtis or even gonorrhoea. Unless it's documented elsewhere, attributing the cause will be speculative.

This might be a silly question

Could this have been because of him being gassed in ww1 my grandfather always said that his dad was never the same after being gassed in ww1 he died in 29 from pulmonary tuberculosis he was only 35

Never a silly question but gas was unlikely to affect his knee.

TB was almost endemic in the U.K. in the decades post war. TB was a bacterial disease but lungs damaged by exposure to chemical weapons may have made an individual more vulnerable.  There have been a number of threads on the GWF on this topic.

The general consensus appears to be ‘not proven’.

There are case reports of TB causing joint disease - rare, but possible.

1001 diseases can cause joint swelling.

Hence why I said it was only a possibility.
