Hi folks, can anyone find a DC for this man? Service record states that he was age 19 on discharge (12 Jan 1916).

There will be a bit of genealogical unravelling to do to demonstrate that  the William Fitzpatrick on the Death Certificate is one and the same William Patrick as the discharged soldier.

The soldier's mother married Christopher Savory in June Q 1915 Coventry (6d 1661) under the name of Ellen Fitzpatrick.

The couple resided at 230 Stoney Stanton Road, Coventry in the 1921 Census and at 25 Wren Street (both addresses as per the Pension Card) in the 1939 Register - Christopher's dob 2 August 1878 and Ellen's 28 January 1876.

The soldier appears in the 1911 census residing with Christopher Savory and his mother albeit listed as Nellie Savory. The soldier is listed as William Patrick and his sister listed as Nellie Patrick.

In the 1901 Census William is again listed with the surname Patrick along with the entire family including his father, Joseph Patrick b.abt 1869 Birmingham, his mother and siblings Luke and Nellie.

An earl day blended family?

still unable to find a mic for a Patrick or Fitzpatrick 2295 on the Royal Warwickshire's. There are three William Patrick in the RWR but not with the 2295 number. Only two 2295 with the RWR neither a similar name.

CWGC has a list of 9 RWR officers and men who died on 9/9/16 none with the names and none of the 7th Btn.

maybe a sit down and work through the died list to see if an alias?

Chaz

The service/pension papers for the soldier are fully intact - there is no alias save for the fact that this bloody family never used their proper names in anything other than the BMD registrations. The soldier was simply omitted from the Medal Rolls and MICs.

The actual names for the family are:

Parents: Michael Fitzpatrick & Ellen Elizabeth Sanders married Dec Q 1891 Birmingham. Father died June Q 1905 Coventry and mother shortly after lived with Christopher Savory as Nellie Savory - the couple married in 1915 when Christopher enlisted in the MGC.

Soldier: Michael William Fitzpatrick b. Mar Q 1896 and registered death as William Fitzpatrick Sep Q 1916 Coventry

The soldier had two siblings Luke and Ellen (Nellie)

Thanks Mel, that's an excellent bit of detective work! A very frustrating family to research...

Luke's birth in 1892 was registered as "Luke Patrick" with mother's maiden name as MALLIN, but baptised as "Luke Fitzpatrick" and mother's name SAUNDERS.

Michael William's baptism also shows SAUNDERS rather than SANDERS.

"Nellie" was registered as "Mary Ellen Fitzpatrick" in 1897.

@MelPack Was there a service record for Christopher? I've just looked but I don't see one.

No, just a Pension Record Card with a Discharge Date of 5 March 1919 and MGC Service No. 4748
