Hannes De Lange Posted 15 April Share Posted 15 April Good day I inhereted this bayonet from my South African grandfather who passed on some 50 years ago. Looking at the length (52cm), shape (crucified) and markings it could be a Rosalie?
Alexander McLean Posted 15 April Share Posted 15 April Hello, Hannes - Yes, this is an example of the famous French "Rosalie" needle bayonet; specifically, the Model 1886. Although ersatz versions were manufactured during 1916-1918, your Model 1886 version was used throughout World War I. The leather scabbard frog is relatively scarce. AndyBsk Posted 15 April Share Posted 15 April (edited) Its a early Lebel M1886, with prefix L it should be made by Saint Etienne, There is missing the inner spring of locking lever, anyway normally there could be not attach it in this position, i assume it was dissasembled or someone losed the fixing screw. Should be presented the pommel end area, is there a washer or not , by washer on end its a M1886/90. Scabbard should have matching number.
