davidda16 Posted 13 April Share Posted 13 April I have a medal to 2157, 30449, 200241 Sgt William.H.Griffin 4th Black Watch and i recently found out he was awarded the Military Medal for conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in 1918. Can anyone find the citation for the award thanks David
Ivor Anderson Posted 13 April Share Posted 13 April (edited) No surviving citation but the MM award was listed in the LG on 13 Sept 1918 as Griffen 200241: https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/30897/supplement/10765 200241 number not listed on his MIC - Ancestry: Edited 13 April by Ivor Anderson

Ivor Anderson Posted 15 April Share Posted 15 April (edited) These 2 MMs were listed in the 4/5th WD on 26 May 1918. They are in the same LG as Griffen's MM (TNA ref The National Archives' reference WO 95/1937/1): LG: https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/30897/supplement/10769 McGregor's schedule no. was 182629, but his Reg Paper ref is the same (68/121/603a) Edited 15 April by Ivor Anderson

Ivor Anderson Posted 16 April Share Posted 16 April (edited) 2 other MMs listed as receiving medal ribbons in the Bn WD on 14 May 1918 were in the LG on 6 Aug 1918: https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/30830/supplement/9251 The Bn moved from the 39th to the 15th Division in mid May. Stewart's MM schedule no was 176209, Hutcheson's 175261. Obviously awarded for early actions than Griffen's. Listed awards in the WD on 30 May and 4 & 8 June 1918 only list MCs & DCMs. It may well be that MMs were omitted?
