Remembered Today:

WW1 Brodie bespoke liner

Recommended Posts

I picked up an early Brodie yesterday not raw edge it's non magnetic body but magnetic rim it has the marking D/F 24 stamped on the inside. The liner is bespoke and has the label Scott & Co Hatters to HM King the Royal Family, of 1 Bond Street Picadilly. On the rim is a hook welded, at some stage it has been reused as it has W (Warden) painted on the front. I am presuming it's a private purchase item, If anyone can offer any suggestions to add to that, I am all ears.

For what it’s worth I think this is a WW1 issued helmet with private purchase liner normally an Officer affectation. It’s been repurposed for WW2 use as a Wardens helmet. The chinstrap has also been changed to a webbing type
