arantxa Posted 8 April Share Posted 8 April I am off to the battle fields and visit Hill Top fram that i have located etc in my book it says the Sussex on 31st July attacked from near Hill Top farm and soon took the objective of Yellow red and blue line and then to St Julian..does any one have a map that shows these lines as i would like to be as exact as possible Thank
WhiteStarLine Posted 8 April Share Posted 8 April Your best bet would be to download the unit war diary for their brigade. TrenchMapper has a few barrage maps around this date. One in particular has metadata that seems to fit but the report lines are labelled Blue, Black &, Green. Sheet 28 NW 2 [parts of] 1:10,000 9/07/1917 Annotated with creeping barrage. July 31st 1917 in pencil. Id: ma_000670 This is georeferenced and the opacity slider shows the modern terrain. It starts from Hill Top Farm, zero is at Canadian Farm and it extends past St Julien finishing at Strombeek.

WhiteStarLine Posted 9 April Share Posted 9 April Assuming this is the map you want, then Hill Top Farm is in the bottom left corner. Zero Hour is the faint dotted black line to the NE. The blue and black report lines are found before Sint-Juliaan and the green report line is at the top right corner. Click to enlarge image. Have a great trip. brianmorris547 Posted 11 April Share Posted 11 April I presume that we are talking about 11, 12 and 13 Bns of the Royal Sussex (116 Infantry Brigade, 39 Div). There are some maps in the July 1917 WDs of 117 IB and 118 IB. The WD of 11 Bn has an Operational Order showing the objectives and the WD of 118 IB has a sketch showing the lines. TNA/Ancestry WO 95/2582 11 Bn and WO 95/2588 118 IB. Brian

Old Forge Posted Wednesday at 13:34 Share Posted Wednesday at 13:34 Hi @arantxa, a little late to the party but some maps from XVIII Corps WD below may be of use, albeit post facto: Slightly zoomed in, Hill Top Farm to left, just below centre: Refs: WO-95-951-4_1 WO-95-951-4_2 All the best, Richard
