Allan1892 Posted 7 April Share Posted 7 April An enquiry was made by Mrs George Adamson to the Red Cross to see if he was a prisoner of war. The enquiry shows that George was in 'C' Company of 9me Platoon, 1st Battalion, Black Watch (image courtesy of Find My past)

rolt968 Posted 7 April Share Posted 7 April There is a Pte G Adamson commemorated on the Montrose War Memorial. Could that be him? (I have photos of the panels somewhere. When I find them I will post a photo of the first panel. RM

You might find it useful to look at this page on the parent website: http://www.longlongtrail.co.uk/soldiers/how-to-research-a-soldier/ The serial number in this case is very useful. Serial number 9424 enlisted on 13 January 1903. That information comes from the following site. https://armyservicenumbers.blogspot.com/2011/08/black-watch-royal-highlanders-1st-2nd.html Pte George Rae Adamson as either a regular or a recalled army reservist. (Edit: The latter. I see that he was living in Montrose at the time of the 1911 Census.) RM
rolt968 Posted 7 April Share Posted 7 April You might find A G Wauchope's A History of the Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) in the Great War 1014-1919); Volume 1 useful. If I remember rightly the War Diaries are fine for 9 May 1915, but if you are interested in what 1 Black Watch were doing in the autumn of 1914, there are gaps which Wauchope might be able to fill.
