asanewt Posted 4 April Share Posted 4 April Thanks for looking. Been asked if there are any organised tours available this year. UK start ideally but anything considered.
Admin Michelle Young Posted 5 April Admin Share Posted 5 April Loos doesn’t feature largely on the itinerary for most companies. a google search for Loos Battlefield Tours will bring up some results. Generally it appears that Loos is part of a general tour. What are your people looking at and what do they want to see, what cemeteries do they want to visit? The relatives would like to visit Loos memorial. The name is Charles Morris. Royal Warwickshire Regt. No known grave and no information how/where he died yet. Going to put a query in Soldiers to see what comes up.
chaz Posted 16 April Share Posted 16 April I suggest/ ask how many in your party? if a smallish party say 4 or 5 then it may pay to look at a mpv tour and ask on the forum as there are a few recognised guides here . They can also provide details of places to stay. the advantage of this being, on a full coach tour, there will be a general tour, This may mean you get to see more of the actual battlefield but going on a smaller tour should cover more time on Your target area. an MPV tour would be a small Chrysler Voyager type vehicle, then you can go minibus upto 15 people or the Holts type full coach tour would be 50 odd people. Going the forum guide way, it could be tailored to your relatives or their specific regiments actions. The Warwicks were around Loos but also down around Thiepval, should you have a couple of interested parties this might be a good option.

Admin Michelle Young Posted 17 April Admin Share Posted 17 April A simple Google search will reveal a company that visits Loos. If Dud Corner is the only place they want to go, rather than see where he attacked, that would suit. If they want to do a bit more in depth, they would need a specific tailored tour. Have seen Leger trips which may suit. Just interested in earlier reference to Forum Guide(s)
Admin Michelle Young Posted 17 April Admin Share Posted 17 April There are forum members who work as battlefield guides, but there’s no specific section on the forum about guides.
chaz Posted 17 April Share Posted 17 April I cant recommend any guides as we always travel ad-hoc, pick a b&b and drive around ourselves normally the Somme with the help of Martin Middlebrooks guide. As I previously said, how many? how long? some b&b owners in various areas may also run or can organise a tour for you. if a small enough party the b&b owner can cover all you need regarding a base , transport and guide. As Michelle has referred to, search function, tour guide in Loos area or b&b in Loos area, otherwise have a look at the Battlefield accomodation list forum
