Dreeh Posted 4 April Share Posted 4 April Hello! Ive seen some gewehr 88's with a hole in their magazines underside. Why was this? Ive also seen some 88's without the cover was the cover removed or were some made like that?
4thGordons Posted 4 April Share Posted 4 April Do you mean the space that allows the en-bloc /Mannlicher style clip to fall out once the last round is chambered? Most of it explained here: https://youtu.be/1IFE2K1pgYo?si=0CPNF5aMP2pRz0tG&t=233 Later models replaced the Mannlicher style clip with regular stripper clips so this was not needed. shippingsteel Posted 4 April Share Posted 4 April The original Gewehr 88 had the hole/slot in the underside of the magazine. Later modifications into the Gewehr 88/05 and 88/14 formats covered this slot with a sheet steel plate to keep debris out, as the opening was no longer needed.
