Lochnagar crater

I have a question. When standing on the edge of the crater and looking north was the German redoubt  schwabenhohe in the location of the crater or was it across the crater access road

In Michael Stedman's La Boiselle book of the Somme battle (Battleground Europe series) there's a couple of copies of Maps of the area, which shows (approximately) Schwaben Hohe to be north-west of the crater on the other side of the road.  I can't see any reference to the source of the map, but it mentions 102 Brigade, III Corps.

Hope this helps.

Thanks so i'm guessing they didn't get the redoubt with the blast right?

No, this German map of 2/7/1916 shows a little distance between the two:

Having read a bit more of Stedman's book he says:

"The best vantage point to help you visualise the attack of 102 Brigade's right column is along the lane leading from La Boiselle to Lochnagar Crater.  As you approach the lips of the crater from the direction of La Boiselle the last 300 yards are the site of Schwaben Hohe."

So, yes, they missed by it, by the look of it.
