Ian C Posted 3 April Share Posted 3 April Hi Bit of a long shot I know but!! I have been contacted by a chap who a number of years ago, knew a Belgium chap, Bernard Comyn, who lived in one of the villages outside Ypres. I was lucky enough to once spend a day with Bernard as he took me around the area showing me some of the less known sites, in his seventies by then, he had lived in the area his whole life and was a font of knowledge on the great War. Anyway, I have been asked this: 'I vaguely remember Bernard telling about the bell from the church in Zillebeke, from what I can recall, the bell was brought back to the UK in the early stages of the war, and then returned to Zillebeke after the war (not sure if the returned bell was the original) I have since tried to research the story, but without any success' Now, I can't remember if Bernard told me this and I can't find anything online, has anyone else ever heard anything about this?
