healdav Posted 21 April , 2005 Share Posted 21 April , 2005 I have a rather unusual request to make. During WW1 a Belgian officer called Baschwitz Meau worked for British Intelligence. He seems to have been a rather incredible character as he escaped from 5 different German POW camps and then he was the man who flew to Luxembourg in a hydrogen balloon; as recounted in The Secrets of Rue St. Roch. So far so good. We know that he was working in Africa during the interwar years and that at the start of WW2 he contacted his old controlling officer, volunteering his services. Then there is silence. All efforts to trace him have failed. So, if anyone at any time comes across a man or family with this name I would be grateful to hear of it as it could be this man or family (I don't think he ever married). At the moment, the presumption is that he came back to Europe and as a Jew disappeared in the camps. There is at present no other explanation. as they say, any information will be gratefully received.
green_acorn Posted 27 May , 2005 Share Posted 27 May , 2005 Having just read Janet Morgan's book, a pretty inspirational man! I did a quick search of infobel.com and you may try: Meau-Fiers G. [address edited] There are also a few families of that name in the French Infobel directory cheers!
