monkstown Posted 1 April Share Posted 1 April Mary F S Letts has two record cards on the BRCS VAD site. One is dated Dec. 1919 and the other is dated Sept 1919, I think (year is blurred but card refers to March 1919). Both cards refer to Rank at Engagement as 'VAD' and to rank at termination as 'Red Cross'. Is is just that the phrase 'VAD Red Cross' has been split in both cases over two lines, or is there some other significance? For comparison: Elizabeth Longworth's shows 'VAD' at engagement and 'Red X No. 50' at termination and Monica Goodbody is designated 'ordinary member' at engagement and at termination, but these two ladies' stories do not concern me - just MFS Letts (and her sister WM Letts). monkstown Posted 2 April Author Share Posted 2 April Thanks Terry - so are you confirming that the phrase is VAD (Red Cross) but handwritten over two lines as there was insufficient room for the whole phrase on the top line re 'rank at engagement'? Terry_Reeves Posted 2 April Share Posted 2 April Yes Voluntary Aid Detachment. Without seeing the document I can't say anything about the rest. TR

Terry_Reeves Posted 2 April Share Posted 2 April The date of termination reference ( rank ) just confirms she was still with the Red Cross. I suspect it should have said VAD but no matter. TR
