stuart rowles Posted 30 March Share Posted 30 March Thomas Pearce was born 10th December 1875 in Leicester and died there in 1943, age 67. He served in WW1 with the Royal Field Artillery as gunner No. L/29162. He was gazetted in August 1917 for the Military Medal. Can anyone help me to find out what it was awarded for please. Would it have been in a local newspaper perhaps? STUART

I have searched the newspaper archives both nationally and just for Leicestershire but nothing found. He has a surviving service record on Find My Past and the only thing that I can see with regard to his MM is 'For Bravery in the Field' (image courtesy of Find My Past). If you have access to FMP, the link below will take you to his record. British Army Service Records 1914-1920 Image | findmypast.co.uk
Mark1959 Posted 30 March Share Posted 30 March He was with D Battery, 175 Brigade RFA. War Diary is at https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/805c191f4115434797253b40952ae260. Free if you have a free account. I have looked back from Aug to early April 1917. The only ref to awards is at end of June. Awards during June 4 MCs, 12 MMs, 1 DCM and I Medale Militaire. So he is possibly one of those.
