As his MIC states Pair only and NO date to F & F, I can count out all the prior 1916 service, but how do I work out his WW1 service. His WW2 service is on line so easy to follow that side. Just need some help with his possible WW1 Service please, hope there is an ARGYLE AND SUTHERLAND Highlander expert out there that can assist. Thanking you in anticipation Peter

His medal roll only shows war theatre service with the 1/7th A&SH (Ancestry): Edited 30 March by Ivor Anderson
ForeignGong Posted 30 March Author Share Posted 30 March Hi Ivor Many thanks for the reply, unfortunately we do not have access to Ancestry. But interesting that he served just with 1/7th Bn, at least I can now try the WD for that Bn, they are still free I think. Cheers Peter

Looking at men with numbers either side of his initial 3269 service number who were with 1/7th Bn may turn up a service/pension record, SWB or death details. e.g. Duncan McLean 3265/275916 served only with 1/7th in France - from 18th Feb 1915. He enlisted 10 Nov 1914 (SWB Ancestry): Edited 30 March by Ivor Anderson Additional Info
Ken Lees Posted 30 March Share Posted 30 March The 5th (Reserve) Battalion won't be the 1/5th Bn. Going from my knowledge of the King's Liverpool Regiment, the 7th (Reserve) Bn. was a holding battalion based at Oswestry, which appears to have operated like a TF base depot, receiving recovered wounded etc from all the regiment's TF battalions. Perhaps the A&SH operated their reserve battalion in the same way.
corisande Posted 30 March Share Posted 30 March (edited) The Fold 3 card appears to show that he started his pension the day after discharge. I assume that this was a wound pension Edited 30 March by corisande
corisande Posted 30 March Share Posted 30 March (edited) As the stuff was donated by the family, I assume that you have details that would be helpful in getting further info. Can you give us date of birth (or age) where he lived do you have him in 1911 census To show how common George Stewart is, there were 377 births registered as that name between 1890 and 1900 Edited 30 March by corisande
corisande Posted 30 March Share Posted 30 March Part answering my own question. A further Pension card on Fold 3 gives age and address
