scottish lad Posted 29 March Share Posted 29 March (edited) My great great grandfather was issued the class a and class b war service badge. I have the document which shows the issue #, however they were lost some time ago. I assume he gave them to my great uncle who was also in the service, however he was unmarried and had no children. I’m wondering if there is a database or website or organization that tracks the serial numbers of badges and medals similar to organizations in the US that track Purple Hearts. I know it’s a long shot, but just hoping for the best. Thanks! Edited 29 March by scottish lad

They were badges issued after the war, not medals.
chaz Posted 29 March Share Posted 29 March The SWB was not a medal, it was a badge for those released during or up to 1920 after the war if injured or sick mainly as a way of showing they had served and not just avoided war service.

chaz Posted 29 March Share Posted 29 March yes, the class B you picture is our SWB. They have a serial number on the back which ties up with the link Dai put up earlier we also had a brass, sometimes enameled type originally issued yearly from 1914

chaz Posted 29 March Share Posted 29 March the other type in brass was mainly for civilians, such as munitions workers https://www.iwm.org.uk/history/on-war-service-badge for clarity the SWB https://www.iwm.org.uk/history/silver-war-badge-and-kings-certificate-of-discharge
