Perth Digger Posted 28 March Share Posted 28 March A silly question, but where can the original Courts of Inquiry records into fatal accidents in the RFC training squadrons in Britain 1914-1918 be found? I know that the final verdicts are available via the RAF Museum's on-line VAULT, but wondered if more witness statements can be found in the original minutes. Thanks and Happy Easter Mike
quemerford Posted 28 March Share Posted 28 March Mike, In my experience they don't reside in one location. However I have at times found them (usually printed on blue paper) in the WO339 files of the aircrew concerned. The Training Squadron records were woefully treated post-WW2 and so it's a real lottery if anything exists.
Perth Digger Posted 28 March Author Share Posted 28 March Thanks quemerford, that's what I feared, but having seen those blue sheets occasionally in an online series of bios of Australian airmen killed in accidents in 1917, I'd hoped that there might be files somewhere that I had failed to locate. One of the reasons for my interest is that the synopsis on the Casualty cards quite often do not completely align with the newspaper reports of coroners' inquests. Thanks again.
