edmund Gillette Chamberlain...was a USMC Pilot....it is allged that 28 July 1918 he flew a "Barrowed" Sopwith Camel {54the Squadron{?} to accompy a 218th Squadron on a bombing raid...

question 1) 27-28 July 1918 did the 218th Squadron have losses of 3 planes down vs 3 german planes down while blowing up a train on the Marne? and that in a second fight the 218th Squadron had losses of 2 bombers and 4 fighters vs 1 German Loss?  {Chanberlaim claimed the plane he was in was disabled by gunfire-he then also claimed to have captured a Germand POW and rescued a  wounded french officer )

He is also allged to have made claims of July 27, 1918 1 enemy aircraft destroyed 1 damaged July 28, 1918 5 enemy aircraft destroyed 2 damaged

Soppesdly he was going to be written up for a VC or the MOH decorations.....

question 2) at Touquin was the officer in Charge of UK Airman was a MAjor O.M. Vancours

Because his claims could not be confirmed he was courtmartialed and dismissed 1919 although he did make appeals to congress in 1921 and 1925...
