I’m trying to identify A CARTER, he is listed on the War Memorial in Ashford Carbonell, Shropshire SY8, UK.

Unfortunately don’t have any information on A CARTER, so proving difficult to identify.

Thanks

Have you considered:

Alfred Carter, 59051, 1/5th Bn. Welsh Regt?

He was born at Berrington, Salop, but enlisted at Ludlow.

A check on 'Soldiers Died in the Great War' shows a man born at Ashford Carbonell, Arthur Brown of 6th Shropshire Light Infantry, also enlisted at Ludlow.

I assume Ludlow was the nearest recruiting office to the village.

Yes, it's him.

His service papers (or part of them) have survived and show he lived in Ashford Carbonell.

He was single, a baker, aged 25 years, 3 months when he enlisted in December 1915.

Parents, Charles and Mary, still lived in Berrington after his death, so maybe no other family in Ashford Carbonell.

Ken
