Matlock1418 Posted 18 March Share Posted 18 March (edited) Welcome to GWF Yes, it was very common to have multiple numbers. Prior to/during the war a man got a different Regimental Number(s) if he changed regiment(s) There weren't any unique Army Numbers that followed men around until post war. Admin RussT Posted 18 March Admin Share Posted 18 March 1 hour ago, Lubbock said: 28879 His RDF number was 27889 as per his MIC above, He was one of many men transferred from the 2/Norfolks to the 6/RDF. He was in one of these groups so transferred comprising 106 men and who were re-numbered consecutively in the RDF in surname alphabetical order going from 27801 (Alden) to 27906 (Warner). This means he was transferred and re-numbered at the same and place as all these other men. So find a record for any man with an RDF number in the above number range and it will tell you when and where the transfer occurred.
