10thlad Posted 18 March Share Posted 18 March Hi all, Ive been getting into the Hellenic (Greek) battles of the First World War but one thing I can’t seem to find much on is the uniforms. I haven’t seen any uniforms in museums as from what I’ve seen, rarely was Greek Militaria sold off. What I could find was that they changed the uniform in 1915, adopted an Adrian helmet with the crest, used puttees, kept the same uniform until 1941. It also seems that the webbing is similar to the Japanese arisaka webbing. had a look on Khaki Depot but the website wouldn’t work. Also does anyone know about where repros can be bought? Thank you, 10th Lad P.S I have added an image of a Hellenic soldier which I have gone off. If any of the information I have said is wrong, please do say. rolt968 Posted 18 March Share Posted 18 March (edited) I think there is a bit in an Osprey Men at Arms book possibly the one about armies in the Balkans. I think there is also one about soldiers of the Greek Turkish War 1919 to 1922(?). I don't know anything about the level of detail of the contents. cmf Posted 24 March Share Posted 24 March Just to add, I think detailed research will involve searching online, using a good translator to search in Greek, and then to convert back again! However, information is out there, and the following websites/books seem useful, including 'Khaki Depot' you have already referenced: http://army.gr/el/istoria/oi-stoles-ellinikoy-stratoy-kata-periodoys https://www.eaas.gr/sites/default/files/stoles12.pdf https://www.johns-military.gr/ https://www.johns-military.gr/biblia/ellinika/biblio-stoles-ton-balkanikon-polemon-diast.-29kh22-.-.selides.240/ https://ir.lib.uth.gr/xmlui/bitstream/handle/11615/3173/P0003173.pdf?sequence=1&isAllowed=y https://www.khakidepot.com/στολές-ελληνικού-στρατού-c-46_104.html?sess=tg0ev0c9g9v8is6he5n26g7ni1 https://www.openbook.gr/o-ellinikos-stratos-kai-i-anadiorganosi-toy-1897-1913/ https://vendora.cy/items/29kqj9/politeles-lefkoma-gia-tis-ellinikis-stratiotikes-stoles.html https://www.dhz-books.com/el-gr/i-eisodos-tou-ellinikou-stratou-stin-thessaloniki-to-1912-10649-2 https://www.vivliopazaro.gr/epistimes/istoria-gewgrafia/arxaiologia-arxaiotita-elliniki-istoria/stoles-tou-polemikoy-naftikoy-papageorgiou-gisis Then, of course, there are the Osprey tiles already mentioned, Men-at-Arms 356 and 501, and no doubt you've already seen what Andrew Mollo's venerable 'Army Uniforms of World War I' (Blandford Press, 1977) has to offer . . . Chasemuseum Posted 26 March Share Posted 26 March KhakiDepot is a good reference and they sell the replica uniforms but the web site appears to be down all the time.
