Admin DavidOwen Posted 18 March Admin Share Posted 18 March This would most likely be his service record then Captain Edward Holsworth WALKER. The King's Own (Yorkshire Light Infantry). | The National Archives It is not yet digitised so would need a visit or get an independent researcher to copy it for you. Tawhiri Posted 18 March Share Posted 18 March (edited) There is a Captain Edward Holsworth Walker who served with the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry during WW1. https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C741190 It looks as though he was a pre-war territorial as on the formation of the Territorial Force on 1 April 1908 he was appointed as a Lieutenant with the 5th Battalion of the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, having previously been serving with the 2nd Volunteer Battalion of the York and Lancaster Regiment. The same page records his promotion to Captain on 2 July 1908. https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/28195/page/8172 Edited to add that it also looks as though he had a son, Edward Preston Walker, who died while serving with the RAF during WW2. https://doncasterwarmemorials.weebly.com/cantley.html https://www.cwgc.org/find-records/find-war-dead/casualty-details/1809464/edward-preston-walker/ Edited 18 March by Tawhiri
Tawhiri Posted 18 March Share Posted 18 March (edited) Hart's 1914 Army List has him recorded as being a Captain with the 5th Battalion of the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, and he appears to be an instructor of musketry as well. https://digital.nls.uk/british-military-lists/archive/100748239 He has a medal index card, with a full set of 1914-15 Star, British War and Victory Medals, as well as what looks like the award of a Silver War Badge too. Edited to add that this July 2006 newsletter from the Doncaster Civic Trust has a biography of the man himself, starting on page 7, along with a photo taken in later life. https://www.doncastercivictrust.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/128.pdf Image sourced from Ancestry: Edited 18 March by Tawhiri
