Merrin Posted 9 March Share Posted 9 March My ancestor who because of his French origins was mobilised to fight for France in WW1. I have many postcards from him during the war addressed to his sister. I would like to get some info on the uniform my ancestor (pictured far right in photo) is wearing, and if the sign showing 20 is of some importance? And about the uniforms of the other two men and how they connect with my ancestor, or are they more ceremonial? Back of the postcard says: taken in La Valbonne, near Lyon - Nov 1914. Any information is appreciated. Thanks.
Admin Michelle Young Posted 9 March Admin Share Posted 9 March Welcome to the forum. I would say the other two are Chasseurs Alpins.

It means it was the 20th photograph taken on that occasion and had to be mentioned to the photographer when the print was collected to make things quicker and easier to find the right one.
