Remembered Today:

German Nurses of the Great War

I found this section on line on German Nurses of the Great War see germannursesofthegreatwar.wordpress.com by Johan R Ryhen which I think should interest some people. There is also a online thesis on this topic Sisters, Objects of Desire or Barbarians German Nurses in the First World War

Link to the thesis: https://trace.tennessee.edu/utk_gradthes/2439/

The other website is cited in my bibliography (pinned at the head of the Medical Services sub-forum) but the thesis is new to me, so thank you.

Hello,

Interesting. It's a subject which interests me quite a bit. Although I was very disappointed in the lack of German sources in the thesis (and no, I don't consider some of the published accounts as real primary sources as they are usually edited quite a bit).

I'll try to read the thesis though.

For me the best book on the topic. A PhD thesis by someone working herself in the field of nursing:

I should get my hands on this book at some point.

Thanks Grey!

Let me know if there's ever an English translation, as I have restricted the bibliography to English-language contributions.

There probably won´t be. Had the chance to meet the author. She no longer works in the field of science but has returned to nursing (in an administrative position).

At

@AOK4

you won´t regret it. It´s a mix of giving an overview about structure and organisation but also deals with the daily routines and difficulties of all involved as she had access to a large archive of a Mutterhaus within the Diakonie (a hub for nurses).

That's a shame.
