Spaceman Posted 3 March Share Posted 3 March British 18-pdr field gun cartridge (Mk II) case dated 1916 and filled twice (CFF - Cordite filled twice 2 x F). Obviously missing the screw in primer that has been replaced by a cork! Only other thing I can see is the lot number used so that they could work out precisely when and possibly where it was manufactured.

Kike Posted 3 March Author Share Posted 3 March Can I ask how you know it’s British? I have started collecting different ww1 items and any advice would be appreciated
peregrinvs Posted 3 March Share Posted 3 March The conjoined EOC monogram at 3 o’clock indicates the case was made by Armstrong Whitworth, at their Elswick plant at Newcastle-on-Tyne. The A in a circle mark at 1 o’clock shows the case was Annealed when it was reloaded. I don’t know of a comprehensive online source of information on cartridge case markings, but the following link contains some info: https://ator1149.home.xs4all.nl/wfm/ww1/ammunition2.html PS. A clearer picture would help.
