Remembered Today:

Miscellaneous (Bomber) as a trade in the RFC

Can anyone explain what a "bomber" was as a trade? This would be for a sergeant supposedly not a flier.

I am guessing it refers to someone who loads bombs on to planes?

No not air related at all.

A 'Bomber' was an infantryman trained and thus qualified in the throwing of bombs (grenades).

Skill-at-arms rather than a trade.

Sorry, my apologies. It actually states that he was Miscellaneous (Bomber) ? This being what is listed in the air force listing as his trade.

Joined RFC so had no prior service to be trained in the definition of bomber (grenades) you mention. He was with 99 and 96 squadrons

which were bomber squadrons. Just odd if he was listed as Miscellaneous they included (Bomber) with it unless it had something

directly to do with his work. I have never seen a record to another enlisted man where it would state his trade and (Fighter) for example?
