Admin kenf48 Posted 24 February Admin Share Posted 24 February He appears to have enlisted on or around 29th August 1914. See https://www.longlongtrail.co.uk/army/regiments-and-corps/the-british-infantry-regiments-of-1914-1918/kings-own-yorkshire-light-infantry/ The 14-15 Star Roll shows he landed in France on the 30th December 1915. He was killed whilst the Battalion was in trenches having been involved in the first attack in the Battle of Messines on the 7th June 1917. The wr diary can be downloaded for free if you register from the National Archives or as you have access to Ancestry it is here It is always with downloading the higher level i.e. Brigade and Divisional diaries to put the Battalion's action into a wider context. Matlock1418 Posted 24 February Share Posted 24 February (edited) The reference in the Register of Soldiers' Effects to "Sole Legatee" means there was a Will Available at https://probatesearch.service.gov.uk/search for a small fee - Probably won't say a lot beyond "I leave everything to my mother" or similar but it should have his signature.
