Good morning all .

I am looking into four brothers from Tedburn St Mary who signed up together . I know about George and Edward, but uncertain what happened to William and Harry . George was a bugler and sadly lost his life at Gallipoli , his brother Edward on The Western Front . I Cannot find and info on his other brothers .Any information would be wonderful .

Thank you Simon

There is a Harry Berry (DOB 28/11/1886; born Crediton) in the Royal Navy.

Are you sure that William was born in 1854? -- over 30 years gap between William and Harry.

Not the Berry brothers of Wexford, then. You had me going for a moment.

Harry BERRY - Is Harry his birth forename or a diminutive [for Henry or Harold I suppose]?

Are you suggesting they all joined up at the same time and into the same regiment?

Would help us to know what the details were for William and George = Would you please offer their CWGC links as a minimum

I don't know if you have seen this with regard to George Berry. (image courtesy of Ancestry)

Are you sure about the birthdate of 1886 for William. There is a William Berry, Navy, born 21/9/1887, born Exeter

BERRY, HARRY         Mother's maiden name: KERSWELL

BERRY, WILLIAM         Mother's maiden name: KERSWELL

BERRY, GEORGE    Mother's maiden name: KERSWILL

BERRY, EDWARD    Mother's maiden name: KERSWILL

Assuming that these are the birth registrations of the four brothers, both Harry and William seem to have been a little creative with their birth dates on enlisting, Harry in particular.

Harry appears to have four separate service records at the National Archives, starting with enlisting in the Royal Marine Light Infantry on 16 January 1902. Following completion of his service with the Royal Marine Light Infantry he then seems to have reenlisted briefly as a stoker immediately after the war, before joining again at the outbreak of war in 1939.

Brother William enlisted as a seaman on 20 September 1905, and served to the end of WW1.
