GregO Posted 25 February Share Posted 25 February The British did establish MG as a corps in Sept 1915, but never really ran it as such. Pre 1916 they remained as sections (4 guns) under the orders of the Battalion COs. In early 1916 they formed coys (16 guns) and reported to the Brigadier. In early 1918 they formed battalions (64 guns) and reported to the Mjr Gen. In practice it varied greatly. The AIF organised their guns in attack at corps level from Jun 1917 on. At Messines Plumer demanded Army control over half its MG resources. They were disbanded because hardly anyone understood what is was they were doing during the 100 Days.
