Perth Digger Posted 18 February Share Posted 18 February I am trying to find biographical details on the above (sometimes described as Herbert Young). I have the information from Vault, Airhistory and the newspapers, but have not been able to confirm him from Ancestry. He may be the Hubert Young born c.1877 in Leigh-on-Sea, who in 1911 had been married for five years, with 1 son, living in Leigh-on-Sea and employed as a Carpenter and joiner. I have been unable to find any military details for him on Ancestry. Any help gratefully received. Thanks Mike

mickdavis Posted 18 February Share Posted 18 February I have him as being killed near Beverley in the crashed of 36 RS Curtiss JN3 A3280 (engine 1173/WD7837) - flew into a cloud and came out in a spin
topgun1918 Posted 18 February Share Posted 18 February As per Mick's post, the incident was with No 36 Reserve Squadron, Beverely (although I have it as a Curtiss JN-4) on 30 April 1917; the Curtiss got into clouds and emerged in a spinning nose-dive; the machine was completely wrecked; pilot Ok & 42868 2/AM H Young killed. Perth Digger Posted 18 February Author Share Posted 18 February Thanks all, I'd got the wrong man. Graeme: all the materials I've seen says he was piloting the plane alone. The consensus was that he had become disoriented in the cloud. Mike
