force136 Posted 14 February Share Posted 14 February I am trying to decipher a record for a fellow who went from the 53rd and 55th Training Depot Squadrons (Messing? - Messingham?) between July and August 1918 to a MARINE OPERATIONAL PILOTS SCHOOL in November 1918. I have never hear of this before? This fellow was originally trained as an observer. Any help would be much appreciated.
Tawhiri Posted 14 February Share Posted 14 February A number of sources online refer to a Marine Operational Pilots School based at Swingate Down, Dover, that was formed for training in anti-submarine and convoy work, using DH 6's and DH 9's. See the following links for further information. http://champchumpdawntodusk.blogspot.com/2018/02/against-aerial-attack-commemorating.html https://doverhistorian.com/2019/10/06/swingate-part-iia-world-war-i-front-line-aerodrome/
force136 Posted 14 February Author Share Posted 14 February Wow that was quick. Thanks, Tawhiri that basically sums things up and adds somewhat to this airman's overall career. Def something I never heard of.
