clive_hughes Posted 11 February Share Posted 11 February Hi folks, Something I've not seen explained as regards safety of air crew of British fighter/observation planes of the early War era is how were they strapped into the seats in their open cockpits? They will have needed enough freedom to operate controls/guns or peer over the sides, but still be tightly enough secured that they didn't slip out during aerobatics of whatever sort. There may be a range of answers, though what was primarily on my mind was the sort of 2-man "pusher" aircraft used by 5 Sqn. RFC in 1915, with the observer/gunner out in front of the pilot. Cheers, Clive
