Remembered Today:

Zeebrugge Raid conundrum finally solved

I may have finally solved a long-standing query. I have a nice group of medals to Surgeon Henry COLSON RN, who was attached to the 4th Battalion Royal Marines during the Zeebrugge Raid. I have long had a suspicion that he left the Vindictive during the raid to tend to the wounded on the Mole but the only evidence I had was a brief mention in an inconclusive report.

Anyway, what must be 20 years later, I have found a cutting that seems pretty certain: it's from the Liverpool Daily Echo 27/4/1918. The spelling of his name may have got in the way of my search. Got there in the end!

That's excellent news, Dom! Pity we didn't know it for our JRNMS article.

I cannot remember whether the other surgeon's name was definitely Glegg (as per cutting above) or Clegg?

(While I am in touch - have you seen my DM of a few weeks ago?)

It was Glegg, so that one was right.

I haven't. I will search for it now.
