I have a LSA made SMLE dated 1916, mostly original but it has a ribbed trigger, I am not sure if this is correct, I think it should be smooth, advice please.

SHt LE triggers are usually ribbed/grooved as far as I know.

I just checked a random selection of mine and they all are: as is this one in my parts box

Stratton: p44 says the trigger remained unchanged throughout the rifle's life and   "...the lower shank is grooved on the front to give the rifleman's trigger finger a better purchase.... one encounters a number of variations from different manufacturers, especially in the number and length of the grooves" (SMLE (No1)Rifles MkI and III Charles R. Stratton North Cape Publishing)
