Remembered Today:

unknown battle patch (formation patch)

I would be most grateful if any insights on what this battle / formation patch could be?

Shown in black and grey, but presumably was in colour.

In use circa 1919.

It looks Canadian, but can't really tell much without color.

I am informed elsewhere that it is a patch used by the British Army of Occupation (in Germany?) c.1919.

I don't have much info on this subject but believe it is the patch of the Southern Division of the Army of occupation during 1919.

Here is a link to a old thread on the British Military Badge Forum with more details.

I also add a photo from the Ebay auction mentioned in the thread, showing the colours used.

That could show up as grey over black in an photograph taken on the orthochromatic film of the time.

Yellows and reds appear dark if not black in the final print, and blues appear much paler

Thank you for this further insight!

Sorry, I've been rather ill. The tunic is from 52nd Warwickshires Cologne 1919. The shape is based on the Cologne bridge.

Thanks Dave, very interesting, I’d never seen that one before.
