trench whistle Posted 18 January Share Posted 18 January Without anything to scale them with the two longer ones appear to be French Lebel rounds. The other two. 303 mkvii rounds.
Sarairaven1313 Posted 18 January Author Share Posted 18 January Ok I will take better photos. What era would those be from? Any ideas?
trench whistle Posted 19 January Share Posted 19 January If they are lebel and 303 they could be wwi or wwii. The French ones will have the date on the flat end but maybe too corroded to read it.
MikB Posted 19 January Share Posted 19 January I'd agree the long ones look like Lebel Balle 'D's, especially since I've seen others with turnover hook formed on violent deceleration in earth or timber. But I don't think the shorter ones look like 303 Mk.VII ball. They look more to be in the 150 grain weight range than 174. Such rifling marks as I can see look to be RH twist, whereas both Lee-Enfield and Vickers used LH. Could they be early US 30-06 150 grain bullets? Were they found in an are where US forces operated?
