10thlad Posted 17 January Share Posted 17 January Hi all, Had a look on the U.K. Gov website and it said if the medals were handed in, they go to next of kin, which I understand. But it says that it states it on the medal roll card. If any of you could point out where this information would be on the card I’d most appreciate it, but since his pension was claimed after his death his medals were most likely issued. Cheers, 10thLad
Clive ex RAF plumber Posted 17 January Share Posted 17 January I believe it is stated on the Medal Index Card next to the date of issue i.e. retd. and a date.
10thlad Posted 17 January Author Share Posted 17 January Hi Clive, from what I see it’s just a bunch of numbers for the victory medal and the service medal says what I think is “do”?

I've looked at his records held on Forces War Records and it would appear his wife (next of kin) Emma passed away in 1922 then it would appear his Father put in an application for I presume his medals but there's no record of them being issued that I can see and there's an entry that states 'award file destroyed 1966. So I'm afraid I can't help any further, hopefully someone on the forum can access his service record and solve and resolve your question.

Working on an exceptions basis, the card and roll would only be annotated where the medal had been returned. No comments would imply the medals got to their intended destination. When a medal was returned, the War Office clerks completed a Certified Receipt Voucher. Quite often, you see CRV references on medal rolls. The medals were retained for ten years. In the event that a reclaim had not occurred, the medals were then destroyed. So, there is no documented evidence that the medals were returned by the postman. Keith_history_buff Posted 17 January Share Posted 17 January When the medals were sent out, there were receipts to be returned to the War Office. You see these have survived in some service records. This was another aid to track the issuance of campaign medals.
