battle of loos Posted 11 January Share Posted 11 January Good evening I am trying to find out which German artillery units were present between 25 September and 08 October 1915 during the Battle of Loos. Specific Sector: Cité St Pierre - St Edouard - Hill 70. On this map, there is only infantry - 08 October 1915 : I did find the Feldartillerie Nr 233 and the Fussartillerie Nr 9 for the 117th Infantry Division. Did the IV Corps intervene with its artillery? Thank you in advance for your help. Kind regards
brianmorris547 Posted 12 January Share Posted 12 January Michel The September 1915 War Diary of 20 Infantry Brigade, 7 Division has three maps showing German dispositions in the First Army Area. I attach the one showing the German Units in front of Loos on 25/09/1915 (I have cropped it). It is a large scale map and as you can see mainly Infantry but in the WD there is also a sketch that shows German defences and mentions some German Artillery Units. Hope this helps, I will try and find more. Brian TNA/Ancestry WO 95/1652

Armeekorps would definitely be involved. Jan
brianmorris547 Posted 12 January Share Posted 12 January Nothing further in the WDs of 15 Div and 47 Div apart from maps. They do not show German Artillery dispositions. I looked at The Long Long Trail under Battles - Loos but nothing there. Brian

battle of loos Posted 12 January Author Share Posted 12 January thank's Brian. Here are the positions of the German artillery batteries in your map : I have inserted a photo of a fake cannon of the FAR 30 (XIVth Baden Corps) not far from the mill near Tower Bridge on the road to the "Puits 14bis - Bois Hugo et Bois Rasé" regards michel
