PRC Posted 11 January Share Posted 11 January He would have been too old to be conscripted in 1916, but in the second half of 1918 the upper age limit was raised to 51. A labourer in his civil line of work, his RAF trade was also Labourer. He was enrolled as Private 2nd Class on the 22nd July 1918, reporting to an R.A.F Recruiting Depot. He was sent out to join the British Expeditionary Force, (B.E.F.) on the 14th August 1918 – and I think after B.E.F it says (I.F). The I.F., (Independent Force, also known as the Independent Air Force- I.A.F.) was an early attempt to create a Strategic Bombing Force that could take the war deep into enemy territory by day and night. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Independent_Air_Force Cheers, Peter
