watchman Posted 17 April , 2005 Share Posted 17 April , 2005 Dear All I have I good idea that my grandfather was involved in the battle at Bullecourt which saw the the 2/6th South Staffordshires reduced to a few men. I would like to ask which is the best book to buy to try and get an understanding of movements of either 2/6th SouthStaffs or the 59th division 1916 - 1918. Your help would be most welcome. Bob Coulson Posted 17 April , 2005 Share Posted 17 April , 2005 "The Blood Tub" gives a pretty good overall view of this action. Bob.
Robert Dunlop Posted 18 April , 2005 Share Posted 18 April , 2005 There is also Keech's book 'Bullecourt' from the Battlegound Europe series. But I am not sure you want either of these. 1/South Staffs was involved at Bullecourt, as part of the 91st Brigade, 7th Division. I think you may be referring to the action at Bourlon Wood, which was part of the Battle of Cambrai in 1917. This is not too far south of Bullecourt. There is a few lines on the their involvement in this stage of the battle in the British Official History. However, others may have more definite and more detailed information on this.
