OLD ROBIN HOOD Posted 10 January Share Posted 10 January Greetings, A friend of mine recently acquired a bundle of identical badges. They were described as being a Farriers trade badge, I think not. They look to me like Harness and Saddle maker. I think that they are WW1 but am not 100% sure. What do you good people think? Old Robin Hood. 4thGordons Posted 10 January Share Posted 10 January Harness and Saddlemaker was what I was informed. I believe a farriers badge is a horseshoe? I can't speak to the period/age of the particular examples you have. Chris
FROGSMILE Posted 10 January Share Posted 10 January (edited) Yes it’s the badge for equestrian leather work. First used as a collar makers badge for artillery if I recall correctly, it subsequently became saddler, saddletree maker and harness maker. The terms used dependant upon the trade description (name) within the corps that the soldier served in. Edited 11 January by FROGSMILE
