Remembered Today:

why does The Egyptian Spinx face the other way? Also seems to be a “brooch “ by the fitting on the back.

Welcome to the forum. It appears to be one of a pair of officers collar badges. The sphinx facing  inwards on each collar.

Thank you

As Michelle has pointed out they are facing pairs, a common, but not universal arrangement with collar badges depending upon the regimental design.  The badge you have is from an officers service dress in bronze.  These are good to collect as they are seldom reproductions (copies) and can still be found for a reasonable outlay.  The one you have is a particularly fine (crisp) striking with well defined details.

As Michelle said - it is one of a facing pair, and in this case the one that would have correctly been on the wearers right collar, eg:

I have the Star cap badge you have posted as well. The photos of where the badges are worn is very helpful.

Thank you for all this information.
