329878, AC2 Victor Cecil Butcher RAF

Researching 329878, AC2 Victor Cecil Butcher, RAF.

Born 18 Feb 1900 at Prittlewell, Southend, Essex, son of Mr & Mrs C W Butcher.  Family known to be residing at Cemetery Lodge, Sutton Road, Southend-on-Sea in 1919.

Mr Butcher entered RAF 20 May 1919 having previously served as a RNVR Telegraphist, mid-1917 to 13 Jan 1919.

Served in South Russia as a General Clerk with 47 "A" Squadron RAF, 15 Jun 1919 - 13 Mar 1920. 

RAF confirms 27 Mar 1920 - Transp. from Ambulance Transport and Admitted 20th Stationary Hospital, Constantinople.  Hospital discharge date not known.

Discharged from RAF 21 Sep 1920.  Recipient of the BWM & VM.  Hereafter nothing further is known

Any information at all would be truly appreciated.

Per ADM 337 RNVR record   -   Previously served as RNVR Ordinary Seaman and Ordinary Telegraphist, 22 January 1918 to 9 February 1919 (demob). London Division RNVR, Official Number London Z/8790 (LZ/8790)

He went back to work as a stonemason at the cemetery looked after by his father. (Images courtesy FMP)

Died in 1976

image.png Appears to have married Bessie Lee in 1927 - Rochford connection as other marriages for Victor C Butcher are recorded around that period

Thank you for the clarification - RAF records states 18 months RNVR service terminating 13 Jan 1919.

Once again, thank you David for a comprehensive response. 

A glance again at his RAF record confirms civilian occupation "Apprentice Mason."
