Remembered Today:

329867, AC2 Edgar Stanley Wood RAF

Recommended Posts

Researching 329867, AC2 Edgar Stanley Wood RAF.

According to RAF Record of Service, born 1896 Essex (place illegible).

Married Joy Hannah Elizabeth Jeanne, 22 Jul 1916 at West Ham.  Seemingly a son Bernard Edgar Stanley, born 1916.

Previously served in France with RGA.  Enlisted for 1 year's RAF Service 25 May 1919.

Served as a Driver (Petrol) in South Russia with 47 "A" Squadron, 15 Jun 1919 - 13 Mar 1920.  Discharged RAF 5 May 1920 (Surplus to requirements).

Recipient of BWM, VM & Russian Medal for Zeal on ribbon of St Stanislaus.

Note - ESW seemingly issued with two sets of medals - BWM & VM issued by RA and a BWM, VM & Medal for Zeal by the RAF.

Former set of medals were sold on eBay several years ago.  RAF issue VM is in my possession.

Does anyone know what happened to Mr Wood post1919?

Any info would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Rob

From 1921 census looks suspiciously like he was missing (images courtesy FMP)

He may have re-appeared in the 1939 register

Thank you David.  Yet another prompt response.

That's certainly ESW in the 1939 Register - DOB is correct.  Perhaps Mrs Wood was deceased by that time.

Let's see if anyone else can add a little more to this topic.

Best regards

Rob

Thank you Adrian - 29 Lancaster Road is certainly correct.

May I ask where the reference to shopkeeper made its appearance.  Was it the 1921 Census?
