David,

Do you have his 1939 address which doesn't seem to appear - Unless I've missed something!

Topic seems to have been buttoned-up.  Thank you again David.

Would you be able to assist in providing similar detail (where it exists) for two or three other individuals?

Happy New Year to you.

Not found anything further on Robert.

If I can help with other veterans' stories I will.

If it is to do with veterans then perhaps a topic including what you already have. Others may be able to add more to their stories too.

Agreed. I'll commence topics, one by one, within the hour.

His RNAS Official No. was F.50745   -   https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/D6850661

F.51232 was Thomas Samuel TELFORD   -   https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/D6851148

Interesting piece of info.  His RAF Record of Service states RNAS F51232.

The widely promulgated addition of 200, 000 to convert an RNAS Official Number into an RAF Number on transfer is a Rule of Thumb only. There are many, many rxceptions to that rule. It seems even the RAF admin did not understand what they were actually doing. The root cause of the problem was almost certainly the large numbers of RNAS ratings who did not transfer to the RAF, leaving gaps in the numerical sequence to be back-filled.

Thank you for the explanation.

I've certainly come across similar situations with RNAS/RAF service records and could never quite work out why such confusion may have occurred.
