brookeratheber Posted 29 December , 2023 Share Posted 29 December , 2023 I have the remains of a 4.5” HE shell recovered from the Langemark-Poelkapelle area. Please bear with me in a little idle conjecture. Given that it was found in the Pond Farm, Langemark area and that the range of a Howitzer was about 6000 yds I am guessing it was probably fired from somewhere in the Ypres area as you would want to place your guns as far back as possible to avoid enemy gunfire. As the main battles in Langmarke were in 1914 and 1917 I am again guessing the possible dates on which it was fired. OK, yes I know this is very much guesswork and it could have been fired anytime during WW1 but any other thoughts out there?
