Arne Vandendriessche Posted 28 December , 2023 Share Posted 28 December , 2023 Hello everyone, I'm searching more information and maybe parts of a WD about Zealand Farm located at "Busseboom" in Poperinge. Did someone come across this name earlier? Coordinates: 28.G.16.a.04.42 Greetings Arne
Howard Posted 28 December , 2023 Share Posted 28 December , 2023 Lots of maps that show it on TrenchMapper. There is one aerial photo, the farm is sadly right on the edge. Howard

brianmorris547 Posted 3 January Share Posted 3 January (edited) Arne I knew that I had seen Busseboom somewhere recently. The WDs of 23 Div HQ GS has this list of locations dated 09/04/1917. The Army Service Corps Divisional Train, 192 Co and 193 Co ASC are shown at G 16 a 2 6. The WDs of the 23 Div A S C Div Train do not mention Zealand Farm but just say a camp near Busseboom and 192 and 193 going into camp in G 15 b. As close as I can get at the moment. Work in progress. Arne Vandendriessche Posted 3 January Author Share Posted 3 January Hello Brian, You are right. Zealand Farm was occupied by soldiers from 197th Company Army Service Corps. That's consistent with my metal detecting find at Zealand Farm. Kind Regards Arne
JMB1943 Posted 3 January Share Posted 3 January Arne, Nice find and a Happy New Year! I will guess that you have only just found that badge. What sort of cleaning / conservation do you typically apply to old badges etc? Regards, JMB
Arne Vandendriessche Posted 3 January Author Share Posted 3 January (edited) Thank you I found this badge last week, i also found some buttons, buckles and many petrol caps. This was found in good condition. I just cleaned it off with water and now I leave it as it is. brianmorris547 Posted 3 January Share Posted 3 January Arne For information 197 Co ASC was part of 24 Div. 39 Div ASC was also in the Proven - Busseboom area in early 1917. I could not tie any Units in to Zealand Farm but some of 39 Div ASC were in G 15 b. The WDs of the Divisional Trains for 23, 24 and 39 Div ASC all mention picking up stores from various railheads. brianmorris547 Posted 4 January Share Posted 4 January This page is from the April 1917 WD of 23 Divisional Train ASC and shows that 193 Co moved from Proven to Busseboom at G 15 b 10 3. That is almost "bob on". On the next page 191 Co moved to Bollezeele and 192 Co moved to G 15 b, Brian TNA/Ancestry WO 95/2180

JMB1943 Posted 8 January Share Posted 8 January Arne, I showed this photo to a museum professional friend. He recommends that you, 1) brush with dry toothbrush to remove active rust , 2) treat with a light oil to stabilize this badge.
